Film represents a unique form of media and of art, fundamentally different from other forms of visual media. There are a lot of trash movies out there- and hell, there are a lot of trash movies that I love. But I wanted to compile a list of what I think to be my top 10 defining pieces of movies as art:

Honorable Mentions:
La La Land (Damien Chazelle, 2016), Blade Runner (Ridley Scott, 1982), Robocop (Paul Verhoeven, 1987), The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (Sergio Leone, 1966), The Thing (John Carpenter, 1982).

10. The Hurt Locker (Catherine Bigelow, 2008)
9. Unforgiven (Clint Eastwood, 1992)
8. The Lord of the Rings trilogy (Peter Jackson, 2001, 2002, 2003)
7. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (George Lucas, 1977)
6. Jurassic Park (Steven Spielberg, 1993)
5. Seven Samurai (Akira Kurosawa, 1954)
4. Alien (Ridley Scott, 1979)
3Apocalypse Now (Francis Ford Coppola, 1979)
2Hot Fuzz (Edgar Wright, 2007)
